On Aug. 10, 2020, Alexis Young forced her way inside her ex-boyfriend’s apartment and fatally shot him, a Mobile County jury determined this week.

Young was found guilty of capital murder in the shooting death of 30-year-old Aaron “A.J” Williams at Cedar Trace Apartments.

Originally arrested hours after the shooting, Young posted bond and was released from Mobile Metro Jail.

But when a Mobile Grand Jury determined in April 2021 she had also committed burglary when she forced her way into the apartment, the charge against young was upgraded to capital murder and she was taken back to jail in May 2021.

Accused of capital murder, she was ineligible to post bond and has remained incarcerated since.

“Our job is to pursue justice and hold those accountable for the crimes they commit to keep our communities the safest they can be,” said Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood.

“I believe our prosecutors have done that in this case that by presenting the facts to the jurors, who ultimately found Alexis Young guilty.”

Young, 37, is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 11. She is facing a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the district attorney’s office.
