Mobile teen wanted for murder of man shot while driving in Atmore, police say
Police are searching for a 19-year-old Mobile resident they say is the prime suspect in last week’s shooting death of an Atmore man.
Investigators in Atmore have identified Antonio LeMarcus Pettaway II as the person who shot and killed 22-year-old Jatyrain Aquamini Tolbert. It happened while Tolbert was driving near Brooks Lane and King Street on July 25.
Police responded to the scene on a report of a vehicle crash, and found Tolbert inside his vehicle suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. Area residents told police they heard gunshots prior to the crash.
Police say Pettaway may be in the Mobile area and should be considered armed and dangerous. In September 2022, Pettaway was arrested for carrying a firearm onto the campus of Williamson High School and he is currently free on $3,000 bond awaiting trial on that charge.
