Mobile police sergeant placed on administrative leave following arrest in Baldwin County

A Mobile city police sergeant is on administrative leave after being arrested Tuesday on a drug-related charge.

Sgt. Chris Reed, 52, was arrested and booked into the Baldwin County Jail around 8:41 p.m. on a charge of attempting to commit a controlled substance crime. He was released from jail around 11:49 p.m., according to records.

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department, Reed was arrested in Fairhope after attempting to purchase a controlled substance from an undercover agent working with the Baldwin County Drug Task Force.

Reed arrived at a location in Fairhope in his unmarked city vehicle and was arrested without incident, the news release says.

A news release earlier on Wednesday from the Mobile Police Department says that Reed was immediately placed on administrative leave by Interim Police Chief William “Randy” Jackson.

Reed has been with the Mobile Police Department since 2012, according to the release, most recently working in Domestic Violence.
