Mobile police reportedly shoot, kill man fleeing with rifle as officers search home

One person is reported dead and several others in custody after a Mobile police officer shot a suspect who was attempting to flee a residence with a rifle on Charles Street in Mobile.

According to multiple reports, officers were attempting to execute a search warrant at a residence on Charles Street when one of the suspects attempted to flee the scene, carrying a rifle as he exited through a window.

That suspect was shot by an officer, Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine told local television stations WKRG and WALA.

Prine estimated the deceased suspect was 25-26 years of age. No one else was injured in the incident and several other people were taken into custody.

Other details were not immediately available. Calls to the Mobile Police Department public affairs office went unanswered.

Prine said the officer involved in the shooting would be put on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.

This marks the third incident with a south Alabama law enforcement officer shooting a person in six days.

Last Thursday, a Baldwin County deputy shot and killed a suspect who reportedly charged the deputy with a knife. Friday, a Mobile County deputy shot a suspect who pointed a gun at the deputy.
