Mobile police investigating fatal motorcycle wreck, pedestrian killed in hit-and-run

Two people were killed in separate traffic fatalities just minutes apart, according to the Mobile Police Department.

The first, about 1:48 a.m. Monday, occurred at the Interstate 65 south at Interstate 10 eastbound ramp and involved a motorcycle being driven by a male with a female passenger.

Officers at the scene found the 50-year-old male dead at the scene, while the 32-year-old female passenger has sustained what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver lost control of the motorcycle, which collided with the interstate guardrail. The name of the deceased man is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Some 12 minutes later, officers were called to the intersection of Halls Mill Road and Noble Drive on a report of a hit-and-run. Arriving at the scene, they found a 40-year-old male pedestrian dead in the roadway.

A witness told police the man had been struck by an unknown vehicle which had fled the scene, heading west on Halls Mill Road.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Mobile Police Department at 251-208-7211.
