Mobile police: Homicide victim identified; suspect dies by suicide

Mobile police have identified the victim in Saturday night’s homicide on Brownlee Street, while Prichard police found the primary suspect dead of a gunshot wound.

The Mobile Police Department said Tuesday the victim in Saturday night’s shooting was 43-year-old Montraze Slater.

Slater and another man were sitting in a vehicle outside a residence on Brownlee Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. when another vehicle pulled alongside and the occupant fired multiple shots, striking both victims before fleeing the scene.

Slater and the other victim were both taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Slater later died, with the hospitalized in stable condition, according to Mobile police.

Mobile investigators identified 37-year-old Joseph Walker as the primary suspect in Slater’s murder, but Prichard police would later find Walker in a vehicle, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
