Mobile police arrest 1 of 3 suspects involved in Walmart shooting

One of the three teenagers allegedly involved in a shooting Tuesday at a Mobile Walmart store has been arrested, police say.

Karmelo Derks, 18, was arrested on Friday and is being held at Mobile Metro Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault 1st degree and reckless endangerment for his role during a Tuesday night shooting at the Walmart located at 101 E. I-65 Service Road South.

Mobile police are continuing to investigate the shooting that left two people injured, and are searching for 19-year-old Jimaurice Pierce and 19-year-old Darrius Rowser.

According to police, the shooting occurred around 8:35 p.m. inside the store and resulted in two victims – a man and a woman – suffering from non-life threatening injuries.

Officers, during the preliminary investigation, discovered that two separate groups were involved in the altercation. One group as at the self-checkout line when the other group entered the store. One person from each group exchanged in gunfire. Police say they do not have a motive for the incident.

Mobile police are asking that if anyone has additional information about the whereabouts Pierce and Roswer to call them at 251-208-7211, send an anonymous tip, or text 844-251-0644 or mobilepd.org/crimetip.
