A 61-year-old man was killed Saturday in an apparent hit-and-run accident in Mobile.

Mobile police said Monday officers were summoned to the 1700 block of Butler Street on a call of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle. When they arrived, police found Franklin Ridgeway lying in the roadway.

Ridgeway was transported to University Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Initial investigation indicates Ridgeway was walking south on Butler Street when he was struck by an unknown vehicle, which then fled the scene.
