Mobile native Cedric Johnson accepts Senior Bowl invitation

Ole Miss defensive end Cedric Johnson is headed home for the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Johnson will play in the 2024 edition of the annual college football all-star game and NFL draft showcase in his hometown of Mobile, it was announced on Sunday. The 75th anniversary Senior Bowl takes place Feb. 3 at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the South Alabama campus.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Johnson, a Davidson High School graduate, has totaled 40 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and 12 quarterback hurries for the Rebels in 2023. Ole Miss (10-2) finishes its season in the Peach Bowl Dec. 30 vs. Penn State.

Johnson is the third player with Mobile-area ties in the 2024 Senior Bowl, following Auburn cornerback DJ James and Missouri cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine. Both James and Abrams-Draine played their high school football at Spanish Fort.

Also Sunday, Georgia center Sedrick Van Pran and Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton accepted their Senior Bowl invitations. Milton joins fellow quarterbacks Michael Pratt of Tulane and Spencer Rattler of South Carolina in the 2024 game.

Other notable players committed to the 2024 Senior Bowl include Auburn defensive backs Jaylin Simpson and Nehemiah Pritchett, North Carolina State linebacker (and Butkus Award winner) Payton Wilson, Missouri defensive lineman Darius Robinson, Texas defensive lineman (and Outland Trophy winner) T’Vondre Sweat, Kansas State offensive lineman Cooper Beebe, South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette, North Carolina wide receiver Tez Walker, Iowa punter (and Ray Guy Award winner) Tory Taylor and Alabama kicker Will Reichard. Players will be continue to be added as game week approaches.

The 2024 Senior Bowl, sponsored for the first time this year by the NFL Players Association, kicks off at noon on Feb. 3. NFL Network will televise the game live.
