Mobile man allegedly pistol-whipped murder victim at Dauphin Island Parkway gas station

A 22-year-old Mobile man is charged with murder in the shooting death of a man at a Dauphin Island Parkway gas station Friday.

Mobile police responded to the 700 block of Dauphin Island Parkway about 11:41 a.m. Friday, according to police. Officers located the victim, identified as 43-year-old Joe Henderson, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Henderson was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

According to court records, a photo lineup was shown to witnesses, who identified the shooter as 22-year-old Jamal Arthur Hicks, who was taken into custody later the same day.

Court records also indicate Henderson was pistol-whipped before being shot twice.

Hicks made his initial court appearance Monday. Bond was set at $100,000, with additional conditions that he wear an electronic monitor, remain under house arrest, and have no contact with Henderson’s family or other witnesses.

As of Monday afternoon, Hicks remained in Mobile Metro Jail.
