Mobile hits 106 degrees – its all-time record high
Saturday was the hottest day on record in the city of Mobile, according to the National Weather Service.
Mobile hit 106 degrees on Saturday afternoon. It’s not only a record for Aug. 26 — but it’s also the hottest temperature on record for the city, according to the National Weather Service:
The old record was 105 degrees and was set in August of 2000.
Mobile wasn’t the only city adding to the record books. Here are some other record highs for Aug. 26:
* Anniston: 100 (ties record last reached in 2011)
* Montgomery: 102 degrees (ties old record from 1943)
Mobile has been on a record-breaking heat streak. The city has broken its record high nearly every day this week, according to weather service data.
* Saturday: 106 degrees (old daily record 100 in 1938)
* Friday: 101 degrees (old record was 100 in 1938)
* Thursday: 100 degrees (tied record last set in 1924)
* Wednesday: 103 degrees (old record was 99 in 1924)
* Monday: 99 degrees (old record was 98 in 1925, 1968 and 1980)
* Sunday: 99 degrees (tied the record last reached in 1925)
Unfortunately, the record-breaking streak could continue for Mobile.
The weather service is forecasting more highs in the mid- to upper 90s again on Sunday and Monday.
The forecast high for Sunday for Mobile is 102 degrees.
Temperatures could back off by a degree or two starting on Tuesday, and the newly designated Tropical Depression 10 could also impact temperatures by mid-week as it heads toward a potential landfall in Florida.
