Mobile food tour ranks 2nd in USA Today 10Best reader poll
Apparently Mobile is a good place to be hungry and curious: The city’s Bienville Bites Food Tour ranked above some heavy competition in a USA Today 10Best reader poll.
Bienville Bites ranked second in the recently released results for Best Food Tour. Little Havana Tours in Miami was the winner. Others in the Top 10 included tour operators in Greenville, S.C.; Carmel, Calif.; Santa Fe and Albuquerque, N.M.; Washington, D.C.; and Chicago.
Generally, USA Today said that the winners excel at introducing people to “the local culture, history, and flavors of a destination.”
“Bienville Bites Food Tour offers the perfect opportunity for a crash course in what’s happening in the city, food-wise,” said the publication. “Enjoy the signature LoDa Stroll tour, which provides bites throughout this historic district, or try one of the themed tours, such as the Murder Mystery food tour, which change monthly. Pro tip: tours offer pricing options with or without alcohol.”
Chris and Laney Andrews launched Bienville Bites in fall 2017. Their “LoDa Stroll” of the Lower Dauphin entertainment district remains a mainstay, but their roster of tours has expanded to include the “Old Mobile Evening” tour, a summer tour using an air-conditioned trolley and “Taste of Fairhope” tours on the Eastern Shore. Naturally, the operation capitalizes on Mardi Gras with seasonal offerings that explore the history of Carnival in Mobile.
“Wow, wow, wow!” was Bienville Bites’ response on Facebook to the second-place ranking.
“We’re so thankful for all of you who loyally voted for us each day! Your support is a testament to our mission of connecting people to the city of Mobile through food. You’ve helped us put Mobile on the national food map and we couldn’t be more proud,” said the Bienville Bites post. “From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! We are incredibly proud to be a part of this wonderful community. We can’t wait to see you all soon on the award-winning Bienville Bites Food Tour!”
