Mobile County SWAT team arrests first of two suspects in Prichard homicide

The first of two suspects in an April 2 homicide in Prichard has been taken into custody by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

Prichard police notified the sheriff’s office it had received a tip on Welch’s location and asked for assistance in taking him into custody on a warrant for the murder of Dontavious Williams.

The SWAT team surrounded the location and Welch was arrested without incident.

“We have been assisting Prichard Police by providing our Crime Scene Unit with homicides,” said Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch. “We are now working together to assist in locating some of these violent criminals who continue to terrorize the citizens of Prichard.”

Welch remained held without bond in the Mobile Metro Jail as of Monday afternoon.

In addition to the murder charge, he was hit with four more counts of probation violation, jail records indicate.

Still at large is a second suspect in the slaying, 33-year-old Nicholas Elias Mixon of Mobile.
