Mobile County sheriff’s office deputy charged with rape, sodomy

A Mobile County sheriff’s deputy who turned himself in to Mobile police on rape and sodomy charges Thursday has been “separated from service” with the sheriff’s office.

A sexual assault complaint was filed with Mobile police Jan. 24 against the deputy, Tyler Murphy, said Cpl. Katrina Frazier with Mobile police.

Murphy, who was a deputy for less than five months, was placed on administrative leave the same day the complaint was filed, the sheriff’s office said.

A warrant against Murphy was obtained by police on Thursday and the deputy surrendered to Mobile County Metro Jail on rape and sodomy charges, police said.

Also on Thursday, “Tyler Murphy was separated from service with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office,” the office said.

Police said it would not release details of the allegations against Murphy “due to the sensitive nature of sexual assault cases.”
