Mobile County reserve deputy, National Guard vet, killed in crash

Leo A. McCall, a 40-year veteran of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle accident, according to the MCSO.

“Leo was a dedicated servant to our Country as well as to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Paul Burch. “I have known Leo for over 20 years, he will be greatly missed.”

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the 64-year-old McCall was on his way to work with the MCSO reserve shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday when the accident occurred on Theodore Dawes Road about three miles west of Mobile.

The ALEA said McCall’s 2017 Honda Ridgeline left the roadway, struck a ditch and embankment before overturning.

McCall was pronounced dead at the scene.

McCall was still working with the MCSO as a reserve deputy after a career which began in 1982.

In addition to his career with Mobile County, McCall was a member of the 1165th Military Police unit of the Alabama Army National Guard. During his military career, McCall had served overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

“May the memory of Leo McCall bring comfort and peace to everyone his life touched,” wrote Terri Hall, one of McCall’s fellow deputies, on Facebook. “I am so very grateful to have called you my true friend, my forever friend.”

Funeral arrangements for McCall had not been released as of Monday morning.
