It won’t be nearly as elaborate as its neighboring Mardi Gras Park, but county officials are applauding the plans they awarded Monday to build a new pocket park in the plaza outside the east entrance to Government Plaza.

The Mobile County Commission awarded a $1.4 million construction contract to Mobile-based J. Payne Organization, LLC, to build a new pocket park that will be located in the courtyard at the East entrance to Government Plaza (205 Government St.) and the Government Plaza Annex building (151 Government St.).
