Mobile County mother convicted of abusing twin babies for months

A Mobile County mother was convicted of abusing her twin babies for months, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Semmes resident Charity Harris was found guilty by a Mobile County jury of three counts of aggravated child abuse and one count of first-degree assault in connection with the abuse of her twins, the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office said.

Prosecutors submitted evidence during the week-and-a-half trial that showed the babies suffered multiple skull fractures, brain bleeds and bone fractures between the ages of 3 weeks and 7 months.

“What these babies were subjected to, at the hands of their mother, was horrifying,” Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood said in a statement. “Our office is committed to being a voice for the voiceless and protecting the most vulnerable among us.”

Harris’ sentencing was scheduled for Oct. 31.
