A Mobile County man is facing a murder charge after allegedly shooting his adult son during the weekend.

According to information provided by the Mobile Police Department, officers responded to a report of a domestic altercation at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in the 5000 block of Kooiman Road in the Tillman’s Corner area.

Joshua Steven Barnickel, 37, was found at the scene to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

The victim’s father, John William Barnickel, 66, was taken into custody at the scene. He has been charged with murder, with an arraignment set for Wednesday. Metro Jail records indicated that he remained in jail as of early Monday afternoon.
