Mobile Christian used a balanced attack and got a big special teams play to knock off previously undefeated Houston Academy 30-3 on the road Friday night at Northcutt Field in Dothan in a Class 3A first-round playoff game.

The Leopards, now 4-7 after forfeiting four games due to an eligibility issue, have won four straight following two straight overtime losses in late September. Houston Academy finishes at 10-1, its fifth season with at least 10 wins and first since 2006.

Mobile Christian had 281 total yards, 137 passing and 144 on the ground. The Leopards held Houston Academy to 129 total yards. The home team had 51 offensive snaps to 36 for the Leopards.

Mobile Christian struck first with a 45-yard punt return touchdown by Aaron Rogers with 1:08 left in the opening period. Carter Lewis made the first of four point-after kicks – one was blocked – and he also had a 33-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

Landon Snow had a 12-yard TD run with 3 seconds left in the first half and threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Rogers with 4:05 remaining in the game. Snow completed 4-of-6 passes for 89 yards.

Patrick Sullivan Jr. had a 2-yard touchdown run for Mobile Christian with 7:47 left in the third period.

Devin Harris led the winners with 89 yards on the ground on 10 carries. Jaxon Roberts caught one pass for 38 yards and Jordan Woullard caught 2 for 34.

Lucius Renshaw had an 18-yard field goal in the second quarter for what would prove to be Houston Academy’s only points.

The Raiders came into the game as the No. 1 seed from Region 2 and had outscored its opponents 402-83 in the regular season.

Mobile Christian will meet Trinity in Round 2.
