Mobile asks employers to say Y.E.S to the job

The City of Mobile is calling on local employers that would like to host an intern through Youth Empowered for Success Initiative in 2023.

Y.E.S was established in 2016 to help young people connect with local employment and develop opportunities. Y.E.S Initiative is mainly geared toward teenagers and college students who want to gain beneficial experience in the local work force.

The Y.E.S Internship programs and the City of Mobile can help local businesses find workers while making connections with young professionals who can gain up to 160-hours of first-hand workforce experience. The program is open to students who are from the ages of 16 to 18 years old and college students from the ages of 18 to 24 years old. Laine Federal will handle all the paperwork, payroll, city interviews, screens and places potential interns based on availability, student interest, and the requests of participating employers.

“Since we launched it in 2016, the Y.E.S. Initiative has connected more than 4,000 young Mobilians to paid internships with City departments and local businesses,” said Mayor Sandy Stimpson.

“We have a lot of talented young Mobilians looking for an opportunity to learn and grow. If you are a business owner in the area and want to get involved, we can help find the right intern for your staff.”

The internship applications for the business owners are now open by going here. The applications are due Thursday, Feb. 16 by 5 p.m. If your business was chosen to host the Y.E.S Intern then you will be notified and required to send a representative to a Mandatory Orientation that will be held Thursday, March 23.
