Mobile annexation referendum set for July 18

Mobile annexation referendum set for July 18

A referendum to annex 25,803 west Mobile residents into the city of Mobile will be held on July 18, according to the Mobile County Probate Court.

Residents in four areas of unincorporated territory west of the city will vote on whether or not they want to become part of the city, after the Mobile City Council authorized the referendum in May.

The four areas will each vote independently of each other, meaning some areas of the city could come in and others may decide not to.

For residents who reside west of Dawes Road, in the Airport area, polling will take place at Baker High School. East of Dawes road, in the Cottage Hill area, the polling place will be at Creekwood Church of Christ. For the Orchard Estates Area, the polling place will be the Jon Archer Agricultural Center. For the Kings Branch Estates Area, the polling place will be Word In Season Ministries Church.

Only registered voters who have lived in the proposed areas for at least three months prior to the election can vote in the annexation referendum. Absentee ballots will be distributed through the probate court. The deadline for mail-in absentee ballot applications in this race is July 11 and the deadline for an in-person absentee ballot application is July 13.
