A Mississippi man stabbed his brother in the head with a fork during an argument, then engaged in a standoff with police, according to Jackson, Miss., area media reports.

Rankin County (Miss.) deputies were dispatched to a residence about 10:47 a.m. Sunday. Arriving at the scene, they learned two brothers had argued, with one brother stabbing the other in the head with a fork, according to WLBT in Jackson. The injured brother was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and later released.

The fork-wielding brother, meanwhile, barricaded himself in a trailer next door, according to WAPT, initiating a standoff between himself and law enforcement, including a Rankin County SWAT team.

A robot was deployed to enter the trailer and allow communications between law enforcement negotiators and the suspect.

After more than two hours of negotiations, the suspect — identified as 37-year-old James Mathew Jones — surrendered himself. Jones is charged with aggravated assault for the fork attack, as well as disorderly conduct. Other charges are possible.
