Mississippi man reportedly shot, killed after firing on police in 12-hour standoff
A George County (Miss.) man was shot and killed by police when he fired on them after a 12-hour standoff with law enforcement early Wednesday morning.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) says Tuesday afternoon George County deputies were attempting to arrest the man at his Jordan Road residence on a warrant for making terroristic threats, but when the deputies arrived, he barricaded himself inside the home.
With a Jackson County (Miss.) SWAT team assisting, George County deputies remained outside the home overnight. About 5 a.m. Wednesday, 12 hours into the standoff, the man exited the home and fired a weapon at police, who returned fire, killing the suspect, who has not been identified.
No law enforcement officers were injured.
As is standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings, the MBI is leading the investigation. Once complete, the findings will be submitted to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
