Missing Georgia girl found in Alabama with 22-year-old she met on social media, police say
An Alabama man is in jail after authorities say a missing Georgia girl was found with him in Shelby County.
Rafael Paredes Panameno, 22, is charged with two counts of second-degree rape, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act, one count of second-degree, unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a pistol and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Alabaster police said detectives received information about a missing juvenile from Georgia who was believed to be in the area. They located Panameno, who lives in Alabaster, and and then the girl.
Investigators said the situation stemmed from an inappropriate relationship that began on social media. The victim’s age was not released.
“It’s extremely important to monitor your children’s online activities and contacts,’’ said Det. Charles Brower. “We are beyond grateful to have located this juvenile and returned (her) to (her) family.”
If convicted, Panameno could face a maximum sentence of life in prison for traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act. The crimes of second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy carry a prison range of up to 20 years.
Panameno was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Thursday. His bonds total $173,000 bond.
