Missing Florida girls turn themselves in to Bayou La Batre police

Two Florida girls reported missing Thursday are reported safe after turning themselves in to police in Bayou La Batre, WGFL in Gainesville has reported.

The girls, 12 and 14, left the Lake Butler, Fla., area north of Gainesville after one stole her father’s Ford Taurus and then picked up Larsen. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) sent out a missing child alert Thursday morning.

The two girls drove from Lake Butler to Alabama before turning themselves in to Bayou La Batre police after seeing themselves on a television broadcast while in a store.

The FDLE believes the girls were headed to the Baton Rouge, La., area to meet someone they met online.

The FBI is investigating the “unknown person” the girls were reportedly going to meet, according to the report.
