Mike Bolin wins Jefferson County Commissioner seat for District 5

Retired Alabama Supreme Court Justice Mike Bolin has been elected as Jefferson County’s newest commissioner for District 5, the county’s southwest region that covers areas across Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Homewood, and Leeds.

“I want to get going as quickly as possible,” Bolin said after the votes were counted Tuesday night. “I’m anxious to get in there and work hard and just get it going. I’m thrilled and feel blessed that the public has given me one more opportunity to serve them. And I will do everything I can to not drop the ball.”

With 100 percent of the vote in, Bolin beat fellow candidate and real estate developer David Silverstein with 59.27% of the vote, or 5,728 votes out of 9,666 in total, according to unofficial election results from the county website.

Real estate developer and former candidate Jeff Wise received 13 votes even though he had withdrawn from the race several days before the election, as the Lede previously reported.

Economic development, public safety, and construction of the Northern Beltline, a 52-mile bypass route around Birmingham through northern and western Jefferson County, will all be high priority items during Bolin’s time as commissioner, he told the Lede previously.
