College Football Playoff exact result odds: Michigan beats Washington in the National Championship (+550 or better)
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Wolverines taking down the Huskies in the CFP title game is the third-most likely outcome, tied with Texas defeating Michigan.
Limiting Washington’s offense is step one for Michigan. Michael Penix Jr. and Rome Odunze are the best QB-WR duo in the nation, with Penix Jr. ranking first in passing yards and Odunze trailing only Malik Nabers in receiving yards.
Michigan surrendered the second-fewest passing yards per game this season but has yet to face an aerial attack of Washington’s caliber. RB Dillon Johnson has been a rising star for the Huskies, averaging 127 yards and scoring nine touchdowns in his previous six games. However, Big Blue’s defensive line has yet to be outmatched in the trenches, allowing the sixth-lowest rushing yards per week.
The Wolverines’ passing yards per game ranked 95th in the country, making it pivotal for Big Blue to grab a lead early. Doing so would allow Jim Harbaugh to feed carries to Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, who line up behind one of the top offensive lines in college football.
College Football Playoff exact result odds: Washington beats Michigan in the National Championship (+1200 or better)
The only CFP exact result odds market with longer odds than Washington defeating Michigan is the Huskies beating the Crimson Tide (+1300).
Despite being one of only three P5 teams to go undefeated this season, Washington continues to be disrespected by college football oddsmakers. The Huskies beat Oregon in Week 7 and as 10-point underdogs in the Pac-12 Championship, took down the Ducks once more to earn the No. 2 spot in the CFP.
Washington wasn’t impressive in the second half of the year, winning five of the last seven games by one possession. But they kept their flawless season intact by making crucial plays in big moments.
On the other hand, Michigan faced a far inferior schedule, with only two games coming down to the wire. The Wolverines have yet to trail in the fourth quarter, and its offense is the worst-equipped of the final four to mount a comeback.
Big Blue has done a fantastic job controlling games with its stout defense and top-tier rushing attack. However, Michigan hasn’t leaned on J.J. McCarthy to shoulder much of the offensive workload, and things could go south for the Wolverines if he’s asked to do so in the National Championship.
Conversely, Penix Jr. has delivered time and time again for Washington when it mattered most. Taking the Huskies to win the National Championship vs. the Wolverines comes with outstanding odds and may be more likely than oddsmakers think.
