Michigan toddler dies 6 days after becoming entangled in window blind cord at Birmingham hotel

A Michigan toddler has died six days after he accidentally got entangled in the cord of the window blinds at a Birmingham motel.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the child as Kiere DeAndre Jaden Daniels Jr. He was 2 and lived in Canton, Michigan.

Kiere was rushed to Children’s of Alabama, July 4, after he was found unresponsive in a room at the Hampton Inn at the Colonnade.

Birmingham and Rocky Ridge firefighters and Birmingham police were dispatched to the hotel on Colonnade Parkway at 10:55 a.m. last Friday.

CPR was performed on the scene and the child had shallow breathing when he left the scene en route to Children’s, according to authorities and witnesses.

Kiere remained on life support until he died at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

The family was in town for a family reunion over the holiday weekend. An adult parent was asleep inside the room when the accident happened.

No foul play is suspected in the boy’s death, authorities said.
