Michigan assistant Mike Hart collapses, carted off field at Indiana; Wolverines players consoled
Michigan assistant coach collapsed and was carted off the field on a stretcher early Saturday during the first half of the Wolverines’ game against Indiana.
Hart was awake and alert as he was carted off and gave a thumbs up to the crowd as he departed for the locker room.
The Michigan team gathered around him on the sideline as he was being tended to by training staff. The incident occurred during a television timeout after Indiana scored to tie the game at 7 with 4:54 to play in the quarter.
Hoosiers coach Tom Allen walked across the field to see Hart, who previously served on Indiana’s coaching staff.
He appeared to leave the stadium in an ambulance with a police escort.
Hart, a former Michigan running back, is in his second season as Michigan’s running backs coach. He’s the all-time leading rusher in school history. Hart played at Michigan from 2004-07 and rushed for 5,040 yards and 41 TDs in his time at the school. This post will be updated with more information on Hart’s status as it becomes available.
