Miami nabs 2nd Alabama senior commit in just over a week
Mario Cristobal and Miami dipped into Alabama for its second Class of 2024 commit in just over a week Monday night.
The Hurricanes received a verbal pledge from Tuscaloosa County running back Kevin Riley, considered by the 247 composite rankings to be the state’s best senior back.
Last week, Theodore linebacker Cameron Pruitt committed to Miami.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Riley is currently rated No. 7 among all senior recruits in the state and No. 6 at his position nationally.
“I think Kevin is an all-purpose back, an every down back,” Tuscaloosa County coach Adam Winegarden told AL.com recently. “He can do so many things – run with power, run with speed. He is a great receiver out of the backfield. We don’t have to limit him in certain game situations. He brings a high level of skill that so many teams value.”
The four-star prospect chose Miami over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan State and multiple other teams.
As a junior, Riley rushed for 1,306 yards and 11 touchdowns on 203 carries in a brutal region that includes four-time reigning state champ Thompson, perennial power Hoover and Hewitt-Trussville. To emphasize Winegarden’s point about Riley being an all-purpose back, he also caught 18 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
“Kevin can do so many things,” Winegarden said. “You could put him at slot or at safety in addition to all the things he can do at running back.”

Pruitt, currently the No. 26 senior prospect in the state, committed to Cristobal and company on June 11. It didn’t necessarily surprise Theodore coach Steve Mask.
“When I first got to Theodore, Cameron told me Miami was high on his list,” he said. “I don’t want to say I’m shocked, but maybe just surprised he committed as early as he did. He had several SEC offers, including Alabama and Auburn, but Miami did a good job. Mario Cristobal is a relentless recruiter.”
In helping Theodore to the Class 6A state semifinals as a junior in 2022, Pruitt averaged 8.3 tackles per game. He finished with 99 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss and 3 sacks. He also had 8 quarterback hurries, 2 forced fumbles, 5 pass breakups and an interception.
“He just loves to play football,” Mask said. “I think sometimes we can lose sight of what a really good football player looks like, and he is a really good football player. Whether he plays safety in college or plays in the box, I think is still to be determined but he is a violent, aggressive football player and a heck of a good one.”
Other in-state notes:
Jackson 2026 QB Landon Duckworth received one of his biggest offers yet, this one from the University of Florida. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound rising sophomore also has SEC offers from Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt along with Troy, UCF and TCU.
Central-Phenix City 5-star WR Cameron Coleman is down to 8 schools – Clemson, Kentucky, Florida, LSU, Florida State, Texas A&M, Auburn and Georgia. Coleman is the No. 1 senior prospect in the state, according to the 247 composite rankings.
