Mentone’s The Hitching Post devastated by fire: Century-old landmark was undergoing renovation

A Mentone landmark went up in flames Thursday night as The Hitching Post, a store and music venue, was devastated by fire.

According to WAFF, six fire departments responded to the report of a fire at the building located at the corner of Alabama 117 and DeSoto Parkway.

No one was injured.

“We are devastated, but thankful everyone is safe. Heartbroken, but grateful for God’s protective hand on firefighters and surrounding property,” reads a Facebook post from The Hitching Post.

The building, more than 100 years old, had been undergoing a year-long renovation, that would have included an outdoor store, book shop, gifts, food, apparel, souvenirs and live music.
