The men’s 200m semifinal will feature three different heats. The first race will begin at 1 p.m. CT and the final heat will start at 1:15 p.m. CT. Team USA will have one sprinter competing in each semifinal heat today, including: Kenny Bednarek, Erriyon Knighton, and Lyles.

Lyles won the 100m competition on Sunday, so he is entering the 200m race with a lot of confidence. He is one of the favorites to win gold at this event, but he still has to qualify for the final.

Lyles won his first round heat with a 20.19 second time, beating second place by 0.11 seconds. Notably, Lyles was the slowest of the three American participants, as the other two sprinters finished the race in under 20 seconds. Lyles had the fifth-best time in the first round, so he will try to perform better this afternoon.

Bednarek had the quickest time of all competitors in the first round, finishing the race in 19.96 seconds. He bested fellow American sprinter Knighton by 0.03 seconds. These impressive times highlight the immense talent on Team USA’s squad this year.

The men’s 400m final is scheduled to start at 2:20 p.m. CT, and it will feature three American sprinters: Christopher Bailey, Michael Norman, and Hall.

Hall had the third-fastest time in the semifinal round, finishing the race in 43.95 seconds. His performance was good enough to win his semifinal heat, as he searches for his first Olympic medal.

Bailey finished his semifinal heat in third place with a 44.31 second time, giving him one of the last spots in the 400m final today. Meanwhile, Norman finished the semifinals in second place and earned a spot in the final with a 44.26 second time. Both of these competitors must perform better this afternoon to reach the podium.
