Memphis Grizzlies keeping Trey Jemison

Center Trey Jemison’s 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies expired after a 118-110 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night. But Memphis announced on Friday it had signed the former UAB standout to a two-way contract.

Players on two-way contracts are eligible to play for the NBA team and its NBA G League affiliate and move between assignments without passing through waivers. The Grizzlies’ NBA G League affiliate is the Memphis Hustle.

A player on a two-way contract can appear in a maximum of 50 games with the NBA team and earns a salary of $559,782 (half the rookie minimum) for the 2023-24 season.

Jemison entered the NBA from the Birmingham Squadron on a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards on Jan. 20. He got only 1:29 of court time in two games while with Washington.

On Jan. 30, Jemison signed a 10-day contract with the Grizzlies. Since joining Memphis, Jemison has made his first NBA start and recorded his first NBA point, assist, steal and blocked shot.

In four games for the Grizzlies, Jemison has averaged 5.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots while seeing a total of 84 minutes of action.

An Alabama prep star at Homewood and Hoover, Jemison played two seasons at Clemson and three at UAB. He set the Blazers’ single-season record with 329 rebounds in the 2022-23 campaign.

In 25 games with the NBA G League’s Squadron this season, Jemison averaged 10.9 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocked shots and made 56.8 percent of his shots.

Memphis has an 18-34 record this season and is 7.5 games out of the final position in the Western Conference for the play-in tournament.

The Grizzlies visit the Charlotte Hornets at 6 p.m. CST Saturday for their next game.
