Megyn Kelly on Katie Britt SOTU response: ‘She embarrassed women’
Megyn Kelly slammed U.S. Sen. Katie Britt’s GOP response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on her podcast Friday, calling it “cringe” and inauthentic.
“She embarrassed herself, she embarrassed the Republicans, and she embarrassed women,” Kelly said during an episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show.” “It was a disgrace. I was horrified by her performance, and I really think it’s going to take her years to rebound from that performance.”
Kelly and her guests slammed Britt for her performance, arguing that it was a “missed opportunity” for Republicans to capitalize off Biden’s age and other perceived weaknesses.
They weren’t alone in their criticism of Britt’s performance, which was largely panned for her strange delivery. Kelly noted on her podcast that Britt’s affect was a departure from the way she typically speaks in interviews.
“Who told her she was Meryl Streep?” Kelly said during the podcast. “Who told her, ‘What you really need to do is dial up the drama?’”
Britt defended her response to the State of the Union in an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” saying that she spoke from her kitchen in Montgomery to show people, particularly women, that Republicans care about so-called “kitchen table issues” like inflation and rising debt.
She also doubled down on her criticism of Biden’s immigration and border policies, including a story about a woman who became a victim of human trafficking and sexual assault at age 12. News outlets noted that the events in the woman’s story took place 20 years ago in Mexico, well before Biden was president.
Kelly is a conservative commentator and former host on Fox News. She has hosted “The Megyn Kelly Show” since 2020.
In December, Kelly was one of three moderators of the fourth Republican presidential primary debate, held at the University of Alabama, broadcast on cable network NewsNation.
