The Mega Millions jackpot is approaching the $1 billion mark again.

In July 2022, a massive $1.337 billion price was won in Illinois. After no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night – – the white balls 25, 29, 33, 41 and 44, plus the gold Mega Ball 18 – the next prize is estimated to be $940 million ($483 million cash value).

Since its start in 2022, there have only been three larger jackpots than Friday’s estimated prize. The Mega Millions record remains $1.537 billion won by a single ticket in South Carolina on Oct. 23, 2018. Two years ago, a $1.05 billion prize was won in Michigan on January 22, 2021, and there was the big $1.337 billion jackpot won in Illinois last July.

Six Mega Millions jackpots were awarded in 2022, ranging from $20 million in Tennessee to that $1.337 billion in Illinois, and everything in between. The most recent jackpot win was at $502 million, shared by winning tickets in California and Florida on Oct. 14.
