It was a good year for Press-Register high school volleyball with 13 Coastal area teams advancing to the AHSAA state championship tournament.

Class 7A McGill-Toolen won its 23rd AHSAA state championship by downing Bob Jones in the title match while three other teams played for the title.

St. Paul’s earned a spot in the Class 7A Elite 8 field and Class 6A Saraland fell in the title match. Bayside Academy lost in Class 6A final four play, breaking its incredible run of 21 straight state titles while Spanish Fort also reached the semifinal round.

Class 5A Gulf Shores fell in first round play while Class 4A UMS-Wright advanced to the championship before losing and T.R. Miller earned a spot in Elite 8 play.

Class 3A Mobile Christian won to the title match and St. Luke’s fell in semifinal play while Class 2A Washington County won to the final four and Bayshore Christian lost in the first round and Class 1A Sweet Water earned a spot in the field.
