Meet the 2025 Huntsville Times All-Region girls basketball team
Schools from across North Alabama are represented on the 2024-25 Huntsville Times All-Region high school girls basketball team.
Players are selected by AL.com staff based on season stats and accomplishments.
The Huntsville Times All-Region teams include players from Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall and Morgan counties.
Along with the teams, AL.com recognizes a Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Individual award winners are listed separately from the first team but are considered first-team selections.

THIRD TEAM
Mylie Butler
School: Albertville
Height: 5-foot-7
Class: Sophomore
Position: Guard
The skinny: Averaged 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game for an Albertville team that advanced to the Northeast Regional final. She was a third-team all-state selection in Class 7A.
Genie McGhee
School: Decatur Heritage
Height: 5-foot-9
Class: Senior
Position: Guard
The skinny: McGhee averaged 14.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game for Decatur Heritage, which finished as the Class 2A runner-up. She scored over 1,600 points for her career and was a second-team all-state selection.
Izzy Nelson
School: Scottsboro
Height: 6-foot-0
Class: Sophomore
Position: Forward
The skinny: The second-team all-state selection averaged 10.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists for a Scottsboro team that claimed the Class 5A state title. She added 86 steals and 31 blocks at forward.
Ja’Kyah Smith
School: Bob Jones
Height: 5-foot-9
Class: Junior
Position: Guard
The skinny: Smith filled up the stat sheet for Bob Jones as she averaged 15.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. The Class 7A all-state honorable mention also had 48 steals for the Patriots.
Kaley McEwen
School: Clements
Height: 6-foot-0
Class: Senior
Position: Forward
The skinny: The Wallace State signee averaged 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists for Clements. She finished with over 1,000 career points and was a third-team all-state pick in Class 3A.

SECOND TEAM
Abby Grace Johnson
School: Huntsville
Height: 5-foot-9
Class: Senior
Position: Forward
The skinny: The third team all-state pick in Class 7A averaged 15.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists for Huntsville this season. She grabbed 82 steals and has over 1,200 career points for the Panthers.
Emily Mouser
School: Madison Academy
Height: 5-foot-6
Class: Senior
Position: Guard
The skinny: A second team all-state pick in Class 4A, the Madison Academy star averaged 17 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists for the Mustangs. She added 84 steals on defense and shot 56% from the field.
Kristen Johnson
School: Hazel Green
Height: 5-foot-8
Class: Junior
Position: Guard
The skinny: A finalist for Class 6A Player of the Year, Johnson averaged 11.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists for Hazel Green, which advanced to the AHSAA state semifinals. She has over 1,000 career points.
Bree Sexton
School: Scottsboro
Height: 5-foot-10
Class: Senior
Position: Forward
The skinny: Sexton averaged 12.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Class 5A state champions, earning first team all-state honors. The Snead State signee was Northwest Regional MVP.
Kayden Reyes
School: North Sand Mountain
Height: 5-foot-5
Class: Junior
Position: Guard
The skinny: The first team all-state pick in Class 2A averaged 20.8 points for North Sand Mountain, adding 2.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game as well. She has 2,069 points heading into her senior year.

The skinny: Barron was key in helping Pisgah claim the Class 2A state championship as she averaged 19.8 points, 6 rebounds and 1.6 assists for the Eagles. She was a first team all-state pick in Class 2A and is a finalist for Class 2A Player of the Year.

The skinny: Childress shined for a Priceville team that advanced to the Northwest Regional, averaging 19.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists. She was a first team all-state pick in Class 5A.

The skinny: McClain was the top player on a deep Bob Jones team, averaging 17.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and an assist for the Patriots. She was a second team all-state pick in Class 7A.

The skinny: Burks was a first team all-state pick in Class 6A this season as she averaged 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists for Hartselle, which advanced to the Northwest Regional.

Position: Guard
The skinny: A star on a Decatur Heritage team that advanced to the Class 2A state championship game, Hames averaged 18.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2 assists as a senior. She was a first team all-state pick and is a finalist for Class 2A Player of the Year.

One of the most accomplished players in the north Alabama area’s history, Yarbrough put together another dominant performance for New Hope as she averaged 30 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. She shot 53% from the field and added 75 steals.
The Samford basketball signee finished her high school career with 3,007 points and ranks 24th in AHSAA history for career points, according to the online record book. She was a first team all-state pick and is a finalist for Class 4A Player of the Year.
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Lani Smallwood, Albertville
After moving from Susan Moore to Albertville into the Huntsville Times coverage area, Smallwood continued to take the state by storm. The Mississippi State commit averaged 23 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game for Albertville, also adding 111 steals and surpassing 2,000 career points.
She was a first team all-state selection and is a finalist for Class 7A Player of the Year.

Baldwin helped guide Madison Academy to a 31-4 record and an appearance in the Northeast Regional. She was named ASWA Class 4A Coach of the Year, with Madison Academy earning a pair of all-state honors for two players.

After a 5-19 record the year before, Albertville finished with an impressive 29-4 record and advanced to the Northeast Regional final in the first season under coach Natasha Smallwood. She was named Class 7A Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
