Three Birmingham area boys teams won state championships with another two playing for titles and 11 reaching at least the regional final this season.

Hoover won its second straight Class 7A title while Fairfield captured the Class 5A championship and Banks Academy won AISA Class A. Class 6A Mountain Brook and Class 3A Midfield each played for titles and Class 6A Helena earned its first state semifinal appearance.

Class 7A Thompson, Class 6A McAdory and Homewood, Class 5A Ramsay and Class 2A Altamont all won to the regional final.

Players on the Birmingham News All-Region boys basketball team were selected to first, second and third-teams and honorable mention along with a Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Coach of the Year.
