Meet the 2024 ASWA All-State boys basketball team

The high-scoring junior duo of DeWayne Brown and Salim London led Hoover to another Class 7A boys state title earlier this month in Birmingham.

It’s no surprise that they were both selected as first-team All-State players by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. The ASWA released its annual All-State team Saturday morning.

It was selected by the ASWA prep committee members with the help of nominations from coaches. Players must have been nominated by their coaches to make the team.

Other first-team selections included Samford signee Caleb Harrison of Huntsville (7A), Buckhorn sophomore Caleb Holt (6A), Creighton signee Ty Davis of Mountain Brook (6A) and Cam Dooley of Valley (5A).

All first-team selections are eligible to be named class Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball. Three finalists for player of the year in each classification will be announced Wednesday.

The ASWA also named a Coach of the Year in each AHSAA classification and the AISA. One of those was Austin Grammer, who took over American Christian on an interim basis when Blake Thrasher was diagnosed with Leukemia. ACA made it all the way to the 4A final.

Players of the year, the Super 5 teams along with Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball will be announced at a banquet on April 16 in Montgomery. The banquet is sponsored by Alfa Insurance and the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.

Here is the 2023-2024 boys all-state team:
