Meet Megan Cordingly, project controls specialist at Alabama construction firm

A native of Pensacola, Megan Cordingly grew up in the construction business. After attending the University of Alabama, Cordingly worked for the university before taking a job with HPM, a Birmingham-based project management and contracting company. She currently lives in Daphne.

Cordingly was HPM’s representative for Women in Construction Week, which ran in March. Here, we talked with her about being a woman in construction and some of Mobile’s biggest construction projects: the expansion of Airbus and the relocation of the airport.

Questions and answers have been condensed and edited for clarity.

So your biography says that you grew up around here, and that was your first introduction into construction. Tell me more about that.

I was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida, so not too far from the Mobile area at all. And my dad had a small construction company doing parking lot maintenance. So, the stripes you see in all the parking lots, he had machines that painted those stripes. The wheel blocks that you see that keep you from going through the space, he manufactures those and installed them. So that’s what his company did.
