Meat in garbage bags, mold, flies: Jefferson County’s worst restaurant scores for July 2024
Some Jefferson County restaurants used unique methods to store meat and poultry last month.
One establishment used a trash bag. Another used a grocery bag.
And a third — which scored the lowest of any Jefferson County restaurant inspected in July — kept raw chicken directly on top of hamburger patties.
In all, nine Jefferson County restaurants scored 84 or below when they were visited by a health department inspector in July. Establishments with sub-85 scores receive repeat visits from a health inspector within 60 days.
One of the most serious infractions is keeping foods at inappropriate temperatures, which puts customers at risk of illness. Several restaurants in July were cited for out-of-temperature foods.
