McCalla man sent threats of violence, images of weapons to DCH Medical Center, police say

A McCalla man is behind bars after authorities say he sent messages threatening violence against DCH Regional Medical Center.

Jeffrey Chase Jones, 35, is charged with first-degree making terrorist threats. That crime is a Class C felony.

Police were dispatched about 2 p.m. Saturday to the Tuscaloosa hospital after someone sent messages to the hospital system’s accounts threatening violence to the staff along with images of weapons.

Officers conducted a thorough search of the facility and found no threat, said police spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor.

The officers also coordinated with Northport police to ensure safety measures were in place at Northport DCH.

Investigators with TPD’s Criminal Investigations Division identified Jones as the suspect.

The U.S. Marshals Service and Tuscaloosa police took him into custody in Bessemer about 7 p.m.

A judge will later set bond.
