McAdory out of boys’ soccer tourney due to rule violation

McAdory High School has self-reported a violation of AHSAA eligibility rules and has voluntarily removed its boys’ soccer team from the 2023 AHSAA Class 6A state soccer playoffs.

Three student-athletes on McAdory’s varsity soccer team participated in a local outside soccer league throughout the 2023 AHSAA soccer season while also participating in 19 McAdory High School soccer matches after violating the rule. The Outside Participation Rule can be found page 27 of the 2022-23 AHSAA Handbook, Rule I, Eligibility, Section 6, Outside Participation Rule.

The rule states: A student who is a member of any school athletic team may not participate (includes practice) on a non-school team in the same sport during the school season of that sport.

McAdory is forfeiting all games won in which the ineligible students participated. The season has now ended for the soccer team. The Yellow Jackets had advanced to the quarterfinal with a 6-5 win over Indian Springs and a 1-0 win over Pelham.

Calera, which was scheduled to meet McAdory in the third round of the 6A state playoffs Thursday night, will receive a bye and advance to next week’s AHSAA State Soccer semifinals.
