MaxPreps All-America softball team features 5 state players

Five state softball players were named first team All-America by MaxPreps, including state Player of the Year Sara Phillips of Hewitt-Trussville.

Along with Phillips, Wetumpka’s May Holt, Brewbaker Tech’s Taniyah Brown, Tuscaloosa County’s Alyssa Faircloth and Fairhope’s Ryley Harrison earned a spot on the team.

Class 7A first team all-state Phillips posted a 22-1 pitching record with a save, 209 strikeouts (10.6 per seven innings), 9 shutouts, Birmingham-area best 3 no-hitters and 1.22 ERA. The junior batted .340 with 13 runs, 32 hits, 25 RBIs, 3 doubles, triple, 3 home runs, .427 on-base, .917 OPS. Phillips was Class 7A first team all-state.

Junior Holt led Wetumpka to the Class 6A state championship. She compiled a 37-2 pitching record with an 0.75 ERA, striking out 223 in 215 2/3 innings while posting an 0.683 WHIP. She batted .512 with 22 home runs, 96 RBIs and a 1.690 OPS. She was Class 6A Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, ASWA first team all-state and Gatorade state Player of the Year

Brown was Class 5A Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year and ASWA first team. She led Brewbaker Tech to the Class 5A title with a 43-8 pitching record (most wins in state) with a save, state-best 267 innings pitched, state-best 19 shutouts, no-hitter, 326 strikeouts (8.5 per 7 innings) and 0.87 ERA. The senior batted .479, with 78 hits, 21 home runs, 83 RBIs, .535 on-base and 1.535 OPS.

Senior Faircloth was Class 7A Pitcher of the Year along with ASWA first team. She compiled a 22-6 pitching record with a save, state-best 402 strikeouts (15.5 per 7 innings), with 1,496 career strikeouts, an 0.92 ERA, .0.082 batting average against in 182 innings pitched.

Harrison was named the state’s Miss Softball, Class 7A Player of the Year and ASWA first team. She had a 26-1 pitching record with 275 strikeouts (12 per 7 innings), 17 shutouts, 3 no-hitters, 3 perfect games, .070 ERA and .138 batting average against. The senior batted .474, with 36 runs, 64 hits, 76 RBIs, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 20 home runs, .572 on-base and 1.580 OPS.
