Maulers linebacker Reuben Foster wins USFL award
Pittsburgh Maulers linebacker Reuben Foster is the USFL Defensive Player of the Week for Week 3, the league announced on Monday.
In the Maulers’ 21-13 victory over the Philadelphia Stars on Sunday in Detroit, Foster led Pittsburgh with 11 tackles, recorded two tackles for loss, intercepted one pass and broke up another.
Foster intercepted Philadelphia quarterback Case Cookus at the Pittsburgh 34-yard line to protect the Maulers’ eight-point lead with 7:40 to play.

The state’s Class 6A Lineman of the Year at Auburn High School and the Butkus Award winner as the nation’s best linebacker at Alabama, Foster is playing this season for the first time since he tore the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in his left knee during an offseason practice with the NFL’s Washington Redskins on May 20, 2019.
In the USFL this season, Foster is tied for second with 27 tackles and ranks second with 16 solo tackles.
Maulers kicker Chris Blewitt won the USFL Special Teams Player of the Week Award after making five field goals against the Stars.
New Orleans Breakers running back Wes Hills won the USFL Offensive Player of the Week Award after running for 191 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries in a 45-31 victory over the Birmingham Stallions on Saturday in Birmingham.

The USFL has a pair of doubleheaders on its schedule for Week 4. On Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit, the Houston Gamblers and Stars square off at noon CDT on FOX and the Memphis Showboats and the Michigan Panthers play at 6:30 p.m. on NBC. On Sunday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, the Breakers and the New Jersey Generals face off at 2 p.m. on NBC and the Stallions and Maulers meet at 5:30 p.m. on FS1.
