Martina McBride, country star, to headline benefit concert in Alabama

Martina McBride’s arc would make a good movie script.

The daughter of a Kansas dairy farmer, she started out in the music business selling merch on a Garth Brooks tour, before later becoming a country-music star too.

Decades later, McBride’s signature hits include “Independence Day”, “Safe in the Arms of Love” and “Wild Angels.” All told, she’s notched 20 top-10 country singles, six number-one hits and album sales of around 23 million.

The singer’s won four Country Music Association, three Academy of Country Music awards and received some 14 Grammy nominations. Most recently, she’s helped Wynonna out on Country Music Hall of Fame duo The Judds’ farewell tour after Naomi Judd died.

Now, McBride has been announced as the headliner for Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s 34th annual Huntsville Classic fundraiser, set for May 20 at Orion Amphitheater. Ticket prices range from $30 to $75, available via huntsvillehospitalfoundation.org.

According to a press release, Huntsville Hospital Foundation raises funds for the not-for-profit Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children and Madison Hospital through individual and corporate donations, providing more than $5 million in annual funding.

The 2023 event benefits Huntsville Hospital’s Heart Center. Specifically, proceeds will help fund a second dual-source cardiac CT (computerized tomography) scanner that will reduce patient wait times for diagnostic scans from two months to an anticipated two weeks, according to a press release.

In a statement, 2023 Huntsville Classic co-chair Hank Isenberg said, “This investment will truly be lifesaving for men and women right here in Madison County and from across our region.”
