Marlon Humphrey might miss start of Ravens’ season

The Baltimore Ravens might have to start the 2023 NFL season without Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey in the lineup.

Humphrey has a foot injury and is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday, NFL Network reported. The outlook is for Humphrey to be sidelined for at least one month.

The Ravens open the season on Sept. 10 against the Houston Texans, then square off against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 17 in an AFC North rivalry game.

Marcus Peters, Baltimore’s other starting cornerback during the 2022 season, is now with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Ravens’ preseason depth chart lists Rock Ya-Sin with Humphrey as the starting cornerbacks, backed up by Damarion Williams and Jalyn Armour-Davis, who starred at St. Paul’s Episcopal in Mobile and, like Humphrey, is an Alabama alumnus.

Both Ya-Sin and Armour-Davis have been sidelined by injuries.

“Jalyn is really close,” Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said in giving an injury update on Monday. “Rock is not quite as close as Jalyn, but still close, so pretty soon – maybe to the game.”

The Ravens will play their second preseason game at 7 p.m. CDT Monday against the Washington Commanders.

When Humphrey spoke with reporters after Baltimore’s joint practice with the Commanders on Tuesday, he made no mention of an injury.

Humphrey is preparing for his seventh NFL season with the Ravens. He earned Pro Bowl recognition in 2019, 2020 and 2022 and was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2019.

Before the NFL, Humphrey was a three-time All-State football player at Hoover High School, and the Buccaneers captured the AHSAA Class 6A football titles in 2012 and 2013. Humphrey also won six individual state track championships with Hoover.

Humphrey played on Alabama’s CFP national championship team for the 2015 season and was a first-team All-American selection by the Football Writers Association of America for the 2016 season before he entered the NFL as the 16th player picked in the 2017 draft.
