Mark Sears, Deontae Lawson among Alabama athletes to earn degree this spring
The backbones of Final Four runs and leaders of Southeastern Conference championship teams achieved another kind of excellence at Alabama this spring.
On Friday, UA announced that 80 student-athletes earned their degrees this semester.
Ten football players were recognized, including Eli Ricks. The defensive back transferred to Tuscaloosa in 2022 after two seasons with LSU. Ricks went undrafted but latched on with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Current Tide players Deontae Lawson and Keanu Koht were among those set to graduate. Both are expected to start in new defensive coordinator Kane Wommack’s scheme next fall.
Three members of the first-ever Alabama Final Four basketball team will make a walk across the stage for their diplomas: Mark Sears, Nick Pringle and Max Schnarowski. It’s unclear if they will return to Nate Oats and co.
Pringle and Schnarowski, a walk-on an academic scholarship, transferred. Pringle has already announced he’s returning to South Carolina, his home-state program. Sears opted for the NBA Draft but retained his collegiate ability. Like forward Jarin Stevenson, Sears has until May 29 to return to Alabama.
Three-year softball starter Bailey Dowling will earn her degree before heading into next week’s SEC tournament in Auburn. Dowling has over 100 career hits and RBI.
Four students earned two degrees each: Sam Willoughby (football), Selina Reil (swimming and diving), Arthur Graham and Kerri Walsh (track and field). The full list of spring athlete graduates can be found here.
