Margaritaville Resort coming to Alabama coast: What to know
The Wharf and Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville empire have announced that a new 70-acre Margaritaville Resort complex will be built neighboring The Wharf along the Intracoastal Waterway in Orange Beach.
According to information released Thursday by The Wharf, groundbreaking will take place this fall with the first phase of the project opening in 2027 and the resort to be completed in spring 2029.
The resort will feature a central Waterfront District “which will include multiple food and beverage destinations, activities for guests of all ages, resort retail, group meeting space, and transient boat parking.”
A nearby six-acre “oasis deck” will feature a pool, waterslide complex, activity area and poolside entertainment. Accommodation options will include single-family cottages, luxury waterfront condominiums and hotel-style units.
A Margaritaville Restaurant has previously been announced for the new Legendary Marina & Yacht Club development in Gulf Shores.
When that was announced last year, the restaurant was projected to open in fall of 2025. It was not immediately clear whether the newly announced resort has any effect on those plans; inquiries were pending as this story was published.
Margaritaville already has a presence on the central Gulf Coast, with a resort in Biloxi and a Margaritaville restaurant in Destin.
A statement released by The Wharf said that guests staying at the new resort will be able to take a ferry to The Wharf to enjoy attractions and events such as concerts at the Wharf Amphitheater, where the Coral Reefer Band performed Thursday evening.
Margaritaville describes itself as “a global lifestyle brand inspired by Jimmy Buffett, whose songs evoke a passion for tropical escape and relaxation.”
The company says it has “over 40 lodging locations and over 20 additional projects in the pipeline positioned across a variety of full-service and boutique hotel and resort brands, branded real estate, premium RV destinations, and gaming properties, all complemented by an extensive suite of food and beverage concepts, including Margaritaville Restaurant, award-winning JWB Prime Steak and Seafood, 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill, and LandShark Bar & Grill.”
It has multiple hotel brands as well as several branded real estate lines. It says its newest additions include “the rapidly growing Camp Margaritaville and Margaritaville at Sea, which recently debuted a second ship, Margaritaville at Sea Islander.”
