‘Mardi Gras,’ ‘Circus’ on the move: Mobile prepares for more than $1.5 million mural relocation
Conrad Albrizio was a prolific artist who worked and socialized in New Orleans’ famed French Quarter and whose murals can be found throughout the Big Easy including inside Union Station.
But the New York-born artist who had much of his work commissioned during the Great Depression through the Works Progress Administration, also had a significant contribution to Mobile which represented his last major pieces of artwork completed in 1965. The lively mosaic murals, “Mardi Gras,” and “Circus” hung inside the Mobile Civic Center after it opened in 1964. They were displayed inside the building’s foyer throughout the venue’s lifetime.
